What do you think on my essay?

Earthquakes have always interested me, with how they manage to destroy so much in such a small fracture of a minute. I chose this topic because I wanted to find out more about how they work and how they can cause so much damage. Earthquakes themselves have their own personality. They can be violent or so gentle that no one notices them. They are like a balloon, too much pressure and BANG the energy is forced to crumpet the balloons surface and the energy is released. I was once told that “earthquakes are one of the most destructive natural causes know to mankind. An earthquake is a trembling or shaking of the ground caused by the sudden release of energy stored in the rocks beneath the Earth’s surface.” But now I want to know what the real cause is and how they really work in detail. So I start off with the real definition of an Earthquake.
An earthquake is caused by sudden movement of the tectonic plates which cause the ground to shake. This is caused by the pressure built up by the movement of tectonic plates. This causes the Earth’s crust to move or shift without warning. This pressure comes in to affect because the plates are either rubbing against each other, which is called transform plates, colliding together or over lapping each other, which is called convergent plates. The worst type of earthquake is when two plates collide and start pressing against each other and get stuck causing pressure to build up. Earthquakes mostly occur near the Caroline plates and the Philippine plates unlike around the North American plates and the Eurasian plates. 1At the Earth's surface, earthquakes manifest themselves by shaking and sometimes displacing the ground. When a large earthquake epicentre is located offshore, the seabed sometimes suffers sufficient displacement to cause a tsunami. The shaking in earthquakes can also trigger landslides and occasionally volcanic activity.
The damage an earthquake can cause all depends on how much pressure was let off. They can cause massive amounts of damage. They can cause lots of deaths by causing buildings to collapse, crevices to form which swallows up buildings, cars, highways and people. It also causes lots of environmental damage too. Wildlife and their habitat become endangered. People lose loved ones and their homes. The lose memories and gain nightmares for life.
Faults are the main scare to the Earth’s surface after an earthquakes because they are the fracture line in the bedrock where sliding has taken place. Faults are the areas where the crust is being stretched. Faults may range in lengths form a few meters too many kilometres. An active fault is where movement has taken place over the past 11000 ans. Most faults are no longer active anymore. 2 In East Africa, spreading processes have torn Saudi Arabia away from the rest of the African continent, forming the Red Sea. The actively spreading African Plate and the Arabian plate meet in a triple junction, where the Red Sea meets the Gulf of Aden.
Not only does the Earth shake for less than a minute and stop but aftershocks are dangerous too. Aftershocks are less instance earthquakes after the main earthquake which can last up to an hour.
2The largest recorded earthquake in the world was in Chile on May 22, 1960 with the magnitude of 9.5. The largest earthquake recorded was in the United States was in Prince William Sound, Alaska on Good Friday, March 28, 1964 with a magnitude of 9.2.
How you may ask, do they record these earthquakes? They use a machine called the seismograph. This makes recordings called seismograms. It measures the size of seismic waves. Is has a base that is set in the ground firmly and has a heavy weight that hangs freely. When an earthquake occurs it shakes the ground and the base of the seismograph. But the hanging weight does not move because of the seismometer. The seismometer measures the seismic waves. Instead the spring or string that it is hanging from absorbs all the movement. The difference in the position between the shaking part of the seismograph and the motionless part is what is recorded. With these seismograms they can tell geologist a great amount of information about an earthquake, like the size and the location.
Seismic waves are made up of P waves and S waves. When there is an earthquake seismic waves are sent out and come in a definite order. The P waves arrive first at the seismometer because it is a faster wave going through near surface rocks at the speed of 4 to 7 kilometres a second. The S waves arrive at the seismometer last because it is slowly moving through near surface rocks at the speed or 2 to 5 kilometres a second. They both can pass through solids but only the P wave can pass through fluids like gas and liquid.
They also use triangulation as a way of determining the earthquakes location. There are several ways to find out the location using triangulation. Using the two different kinds of waves the earthquakes give off, lets them figure out the location. Sense one of the waves is always faster than the other, the further the distance the wave travels, putting the wave more ahead. If a certain place feels both of the waves, it can calculate out how far away the earthquake was.
People often ask the question on whether you can predict an earthquake or not but it has never been proven that any earthquake has been predicted. Predicting earthquakes is very difficult because no one knows when the energy stored in the plates will reach the point where is will release enough energy to cause an earthquake. Scientists cannot predict when earthquakes are going to happen because if so many thousands of lives would have been saved.
When an earthquake occurs many people either do not know what to do or are panicking so much that they cannot remember what to do. 3 When you are indoors, duck or drop down onto the floor. Take cover under a sturdy deck, table or any other furniture. Hold onto it and be prepared to move with it. Stay in this position until the ground stops shaking and it is safe to move. Stay clear of windows, fireplaces, woodstoves, and heave items that may fall on you. Stay inside to avoid being injured by falling glass or building parts. If you are in a crowded are, take cover and tell others to do likewise. When outside, get into an opening away from buildings and power lines. When driving a car and an earthquake occurs do not try rushing home! Stop if it is safe but stay inside your car. Stay away from bridges, overpasses and tunnels. Move your car as far out of the normal traffic lanes as possible. Avoid stopping under trees, power lines, light posts and signs. When on mountain or near an unstable slope or cliff be alert for falling rocks and other debris that could be loosened by the earthquake. Also look out for wild animals because they can sense earthquakes and go a little wild! When on a beach move inland or move to higher land.
I have really learned a lot from doing this project on earthquakes. From watching videos of people videotaping earthquakes to discovery videos I have really seen how dangerous earthquakes are. Looking at stats from previous earthquakes over the years has shown me that many innocent people and animals have had their lives taken, has caused great tragedy over the certain areas. I never knew that there were different types of tectonic plates under the Earth’s crust! I thought there was only a crust, the ground we walk on. So this has been an enjoyable project for me. I really like the science around Earthquakes.

Long time no see

Wow, I haven't been on this journal for along time. I have a grad dinner tonight and then we are playing bingo and the prize's are up $2000 worth. CRAZY I hope I win something! Love you all I will try to write up more soon.

Woot, it's almost been a full week at school.

Ok, I really suck at updating this! Sorry about that! Anyway our school had a dance last Saturday. The music sucked alot because of the person doing it and people were getting pissed off. I had alot of fun! I still have streamer peices in my room. Well I found them in my hair and around my wrists. Lol I danced with a German boy and girl, a girl fro Austria, a girl from Bermuda, and lots more! Bet you haven't done that all in one night! WOOTY Well I have to go have a shower... I just got in from a run like 20 minutes ago. Peace!

I am so sorry for not writing any blogs lately. I have been so busy getting ready for school. I arrived at school on Wednesday the 3rd. I am in Upper Joddery this year and I have a single room which is quite large. I like being by myself but it's kinda lonely!

I am in grade 12 this year and I think that I have been given the best classes ever! I love my classes so much but it's kinda awkward to have my ex from my other school and my ex-best friend in all most all my classes!

Hey, gabby! How are you? Well I'm crying really hard cause I was going threw your pictures and realizing how fucking much I miss you and I just started crying as thoe the day I left school. I feel like then, you know! I know now that I may never see you again! I miss you so much! :( I wana go back to when I would wake up at school my first year to last October and get ready so fast so I could spend as much time wit you before school stared! I would like get up at 6 just so I could head over there as soon as we could! I would find you every resess and lunch and after classes and before sports and during sports and after and before supper and I would sit beside yyou at supper and usually I had to fight with Step to sit be side you. I'm crying just as had as I was the day I though I wound never see you again! Like when I left grad I was crying so much! I wana beable to hug you when ever I want. It's been awhile!

Internet oh how much I missed you! Well I went to New Brunswick to celebrate my birthday. I got to see Jody and I stayed at his cottage for the night. Oh my G-d we got so drunk! ^.^ It was halarious, he couldn't even stand up! His parents got so mad at him. And the funny part was that I was just as drunk and the his parents thought I was perfecly A-ok!! Like I was not showing any signs of being drunk or haveing any alcholo! Ah, I love Jody, he's like my best best friend! *sigh* I went to Boston Pizza for my birthday dinner. And I bought Fire Works! XD They were so cool looking! I had so much fun setting off Fire Works! Going to New Brunswick!

Work went bye so fast today! I only had to work from 8 - 1:30! I got to hang out with Shayne today it was awasome to chill with someone I really knew for the first time this summer. Oh, just to let you know. Wheremy cottage is I have no internet so I wont be on till the 18th! I know, not cool. But I will write a blog everyday and I will post it as soon as I get internet. Woot, visitor at work!

Well I haven't been on here in a little while because I have been getting ready for New Brunswick. Oh, my roomie last year, Ali came to visit me yesturday at work!! Oh, Shayne is coming today and I get to see him at 1:30 and its like 7 now. He's comign to pick me up from work at 1:30!! I'm so excited! Shopping last minute.

Well this was a well spent night....NOT! I had nothing to do! I got off work at 4 and went to the mall to tan and pick up this picture I wanted and went home. I tried making plans but everyone was busy! :( So I walked downtown to see if I knew anyone and I ended uup buying a dressish tanktop, a pink tanktop and a Bench sweater. Flower Power!

Well I have to say this is the first day were I can actually do a blog with out the power going out on me! I was at work all day counting wire and winding it up. Fun, fun! Now I am calling a friend to see if they want to hangout. Also my cousin Suzanne just got home from Fiji! To bad the group she went with all got sick there. :( Don't drink the water in Fiji unless it's bottled by a reliable sorce. What else happened this week? Oh, my aunt cam to visit! The poor thing is going threw breast cancer treatments. :( I got her a head scarf that has breast cancerish stuff on it! She headed back home this morning. Woot! Only 11 more days till my birthday! It's raining, it's pooring, the old man is snoring!

Well, today was a fun day. I woke up around 11 and watched T.V. with Jenna. Oh, by the way the reason I didn't have a blog for yesturday was because I was downtown all night with... Travis, Nico, Danika, Danial, Devin, Andrew. I was threanted by this girl who was saying she was going to kill me! She friging slamed my car door on my leg and it didn't hurt casue I was messed up but man it was hurting this morning! But it's all good now because she forgot all about last night. Kinda like everyone else. We weren't really our selves last night. If you get what I mean!!! Chug-a-lug Chug-a-lug..... Anyway so I started getting in the car to take Jenna to her house so she could get some clean clothes and Devin was there so he came with me. Man we were both like hung over as hell!!! So we droped her off and went back to my house cause I needed to put like normal clothes on! I was still in my pj's. We picked Alicia up and then picked Jenna back up and I droped her back at my house. Then we went to the mall and I bought a octopus. Yes I bought a octopus that can stand up and he has a pirate eye patch on him too. I'll take a picture and post it later. Well, then after we went to my house and went swimming and then went to Alicia's and made KD! *yummy* I love her seven toed kitty. LOLZ Devin found his pussy after his long journey trying to find the perfect one! *inside joke* So after we went to the SAJS and ran in the rain and swam in the puddles and listened to music. So much fun! Then we played the game where you say an animal and you have to make the noise you think it would make in "climax" *I know immature but it's so friging funny*. Oh my G-d, Devin got stuck on the Rhino's noise because we didn't know what noise it makes. We searched it on the cell. Supposedly they make a squealing noise and blasting noise! Weird i know. Well I have to go to bed. Work tomorrow. Wooty! Not!!

Mamma Mia!!!!

Oh my G-d. Mamma Mia was amazing! I was singing to every song! ^.^ Todaay was my day off from work and I hung out with Cory the one who was out west and Alicia. We had so much fun! We drove around and walked the town too! I can't wait till tomorrow after work. Dance party at the house, well we haven't decided if we should or not. *sigh* Andrew and I are going to hangout tomorrow and sunday. I think were going swimming and hanging out and movie.... but not sure. Well I have to go Jenna my friend is down stairs and were going to go chill and then I have to go to bed I have work at 8 to 5. Wow, is it safe to walk outside?

I can't believe the amount of perves and pedifiles in this town! There are 12 pedifiles (yes they have been caught before) living in a distance of 3 streets away!! No wonder I never see childern playing outside anymore. *sigh* My tummy hurts! I wonder why? Hmmm... I didn't eat anything I haven't eaten before! I haven't done anything, I haven't done before! Huh! Weird! I'm watching my favorite movie right now, A Walk To Remember. My favorite line is playing right now. Landon is at Jamie's house and he is waiting for Jamie to come back with her script. Wow, today I really couldn't stop thinking about so many things! It was like my thinking was on full speed. I could hardly consentrate on making clearence tags. *sigh* Well I might be going on a little trip to a beach with Cory on the 15th, but I think that's the day I go to New Brunswick! Dam it, I just looked and I leave on the 14th for N.B. Also I don't think my parents would let me go with Cory and his parents becuase they don't know him! Well I have alot to say tonight. I would like to start off with my fish dieing. RIP Boofoo. Anyway to a happier thought, I hung out with Alisia, Walter and Andrew at the train bridge. So much fun! I also saw Travis and Irvin again ahahah Oh my... *sigh* Andrew is leaving tomorrow morning at 5 to go to the shipping yards till Friday to work. But he's back every Friday. I was a goblin under a bridge!

Ok, well I forgot to do a blog yesturday becuase I went to work at 8 to 4 and then went downtown till like 10. I was hanging with Irvin, Travis and Riley. I went to the park to meet up with them but it took me a while to find them. See I did not knwo Riley was going ot be there. Actually I just meet him. We were going to go to the Batman movie but we missed it so were going tonight. Now I have to go becuase I'm going out at 5 and I have to go eat, shower, and what not. Oh, by the way we had alot of fishfood.

Becuase I got hhhiiiggggh, La Da Da......

Wow, Last night started off with a bad start but that didn't last! Oh my G-d, I saw this guy at the pizza place that called my house like in grade 6 or 7 and said I gave him my number, which I didn't and said that I was going out with him. Um, ackward!!! Oh and no I didn't actually go out with him! lol... Now this guy is like 14 or 15 now. He's basicly 3 1/2 years younger than I am! So me and my friend Irvin went about the town looking to woohoo / fishfood. We went to see the Judge and he was out... the biggest fishfood man was out! : OMGAWD. Then I ran into this girl, which I recognized but couldn't place her. Well all be dam she was one of the grade 5'ers that I took care of in grade 7 or 8. Wow, she was all grown up. It brang me joy to see her again! Well then we went to the park and of course I had to turn the water park on *runs and puts hands on the dragons tail* Then I spotted spinners, aka a fishfood man. I got some fishfood and I was all set for my night! Fifteen bucks was so worth it! Still have 3/4 of it left! Yeahboy!!! Man Irvin and I were set for the night, swings are fun as hell! =) Well I have to go because I have work in 40 minutes.

Hard day at work? Yes!

Yeah, the computers at work are up and running! Which make work alot eaiser! There was onee point were my friend Allan from work was thinking some song and I began to sing it and he got totally freaked out. He said I was reading his mind again! It seems that I think the same things he does. Oh well, not my fault. The only downside of work today is the fact that my back hurts so much. It just randomly started to hurt. It's like major pain and then it feels like it's burning! : ( It sucks. Thank G-d for A535 back patches!! Oh, some bad news. Supposedly one of my new friends from over the summer doesn't want to be my friend anymore. Oh well, that's what you get when your guy friends get girlfriends! Tomorrow I only have to work from 8 to 4. Which makes my weekend a longer weekend sence I have Saturday off! I would like to say thank you to Blair who reads my new blog. Thank you! *sigh* The A535 is doing it's job. At the moment I have no bad back pain at the least. : ) Well I'm going to go because I want to have a quick nap before I go out but I will probably do another blog later on today.

Try doing an order by hand!

I'm home from work now for about one and a half hours now and I'm tired as hell. Today the weather was still bad. I went to work at quater to 12 and worked till 8. At like 2 the power went on and off becuase a cement truck like 10 minutes away hit a power pole and cut the cords, leaving everyone in either dark or on back up. So at 2:30 ish I went to get my friend Melissa K from the garden center so we can go to lunch. We noticed smoke coming from James street and we were like " Please let that be KFC burning down!" As you can tell we don't like KFC that much. So we went on luch and drove to James street, which by the way is basicly down the highway, and found out KFC was not burnt down or damaged at the least. So we got our food and went back to the parking lot to eat and relax with the 30 minute lunch break we have. Which by the way were an hour long last summer! : ( When we went back into the store we saw people running around handing out pink and white booklets. Now let me not that this is 3 in the afternoon. The friging computers had stopped working! Meaning no looking up items, no searching for items, no ordering stuff, and most of all the cash had to do the slips up by hand! So that left me running around the store looking for items people had brought to the cash and finding out the sku's, descriptions and prices for the items. I did that till closing which was at 8! I'm realling hopeing that the computers are working tomorrow!! *sigh* So tomorrow I work 8 to 5 and I get to leave work around 9:20 becuase I have an appointment. Then I will be going back to work after that. I still haven't finished thoe clearence tags yet because I need the computers to look up sku's, descriptions and prices for all the items. I swear their are millions of them! SO here I sit in my room woundering how tomorrow at work will be. I hope it's a fast day! Well, I'm going to go clean my room and have an early night.

I saw you running with the other childern!

Well I just went downstairs to eat my breckfeast and I picked up the newspaper to see what is going on in the world. When I reconized this little boy, I had seen him in Halifax, Nova Scotia at a tack meet. He had a growth on his face but none on the childern cared, it was if they didn't notice it like it was not there. They were seeing him for who he really was. The article told me that he was undergoing treatment that would soon reduce the growth by 90% by febuary. I am so happy for him, he's a good example of childern with medical problems that don't let that stop them from being a child. He's a good little runner I have to admit and I heard he's athletic too. Well I say good luck Son Pham and see you at the next track meet in Halifax.

What to do!

Well, I just got off work almost two hours ago and already I'm bored out of my mind! I have nothing to do tonight becuase the weather is still bad and people don't want to walk into town in the rain. Funny thing just happened! I just sent a text to my bestfriends house phone and he replied and it was so weird because he replied in a voice type message. Anyway tomorrow I work 12 to 8 again, yeah! I have to make a bunch of Clearence tags and put them out. Which by the way is not fun, but it does make the time go by faster!
Good news, my friend Cory is coming home from a wedding out west on the 30th. I can't wait till he gets here. Also my good friend Shayne is coming to my town I think around the 6th of August. He will be going up to New Brunswick at the same time I am and coming back to my town on the 18th of August. Best part is, is that I will be able to see him on my birthday on the 17th of August in New Brunswick. I will also be seeing my number one guy friend Jody. Jody and I went to a private school together in grade 10. We hung out every spare minute we had. He and I don't go to that school anymore. He went back to New Brunswick for school while I swiched schools. So we hardly ever see each other. = ( I miss him so much. Yeah, I can't wait till the end of this mounth becuase I will be able to see people I haven't seen in awhile. Well, I am going to go find food in the mysterieous kitchen. Good luck to me! =P

Getting ready for work!

Well I just got up and already I'm bloging. I had weird dreams that of corse don't make any sence at all, but that's the best part. Once again the weather is looking very down today. Yesturday it rained and it looks like it's going to do the same thing again. Welll I just realized that I made a typo in my last blog! Opps! Now I'm talking to one of my new friends I meet at Canada Day. I was woundering why I haven't seen him all summer. He's been out west sence July. 8th and he's coming back on the 30th. Yeah! I wonder how work will be today! I work in a hardware store that my dad owns. It's called CENTRAL. Oh, by the way the picture on the left there is me working in electrical I think last week. I work either in electrical, plumbing or tools! I prefer not to work in tools thoe! Ok, bad news! Andrea my best friend is moving. :( I don't want her to leave. *sigh* Ok, I go away for school and have been doing so for four years. So I don't know anyone at home. That's what you get when you go to prep school. *lol* My cat just opened my closet door. He's on an adventure. *giggle* Well I have work at 12 till 8 I think I should go get ready! Perhaps!

First Blog Ever!

Alrighty then, so here I sit on my bed filling out this blog. I was quite a laught a short bit ago when I was filling out the user information. I filled it all out and saved it and then I notices this box you can click. It says [ ] Click for another question. Well knowing how I knew I had to know what the heck it's talking about I clicked it. And it gave me this question as follows:

The first time you had your shoes taken off - how surprised were you to see that you still had toes?

And my reply was this:

Well the only time were I had taken my shoes off and was surprised to see that my toes were still there was when I was at high! No joke, I had actually droped this huge rock from the fill in grounds on my foot and I was sure I had no toes left. I was freaking out. But I checked it and sure enough I had toes, all ten of them.

Well, I have to go to bed because I have work tomorrow at 12. Love you all!
